Instructional Strategies Profile
Robert Marzano identifies several categories of instructional strategies that have been proven to significantly affect student learning when properly implemented. Of these categories, the five types of strategies that yield the highest effect size are identifying similarities and differences; summarizing and note taking; using non-linguistic representations; accessing prior knowledge and building background knowledge through cues, questions, and advanced organizers; and cooperative learning. In my teaching I have grown especially fond of a few specific strategies in each of these areas.
