6- Data Analysis
Recognizing Statistical Questions
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.SP.A.1
Recognize a statistical question as one that anticipates variability in the data related to the question and accounts for it in the answers. For example, "How old am I?" is not a statistical question, but "How old are the students in my school?" is a statistical question because one anticipates variability in students' ages.
1. Watch the video below to learn what a statistical question is (stop at 1:18). (You will watch this as a class)
2. Now test your skills by pressing the button below. Can you tell if the question is a statistical question or not? Don't forget to record your answers on the worksheet provided by the sub to get credit for your work!
3. Keep Practicing! Click on the button below to identify each question as statistical or not.
4. Got it? You may now ask the sub for the "Statistical Questions Sort" and work on cutting out and pasting each question into the correct category (either statistical or not). Work on this activity with a partner.
5. Exit Slip... Please do this on your OWN! It lets me know what you understand and what you do not understand! I won't know that if you copy off a partner!
6. Have a great day and see you tomorrow!
